Introduction

This page explains how to turn a new Linksys WRT54GL into a fabfi for the first time. Once the device has had the fabfi firmware installed for the first time, you may follow the common procedures on the Router Tech page for further configuration and updating. Any deviation from those common processes will be outlined here.

Flashing the FabFi Image

For the initial install, you will need the 54G specific binary file found on the download page: fabfi-linksys_wrt54gl.bin Download this to your computer.

Updating the firmware

  • Connect to your router using an ethernet cable. Plug it into port 4 of the router
  • Point your browser to 192.168.1.1 You will be asked for a password
    • Username: <blank>
    • Password: admin
  • MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RELIABLE POWER. If you lose power during the upgrade, you might brick your router.
